La Vita Ru

LaVita Ru, born January 11th, 1978 on one very cold winter day in Chicago, was born an artist at heart. Given her first paint brush at the age of 8 by Melvin King, a well-known Artist, she still holds on tightly as it guides her through many imaginative journeys in her life. LaVita attended Columbia College, graduating with a degree in Fine Art/Graphic Design in the year 2000. She is recognized for having an intuitive niche that makes the artwork she creates distinctive and endearing to her client base. For the first part of her life she felt inclined to create large abstract paintings, portraits and murals. She enjoyed this; however, it was a slow turnover and not original enough for her. She wanted to do something greater. LaVita being a single mom of two, was determined to comfortably support her family as an artist and make a life doing what she loved. This desire gave birth to an idea to create smaller, functional pieces people could wear, use and feature, and this transition was a great success. Simultaneously, she discovered the power of the pen- the wood burning pen that is.

.

Currently, LaVita Ru is the owner of The Intuitive Wood Shop, where she specializes in creating high quality, custom wood burned/ hand painted jewelry, collectibles and keepsake gifts. She also enjoys clothing/accessories design as a hobby which compliments here jewelry-making. Lots of love, patience and intricacy go into her work. It is not uncommon to notice new details the first few times you look at it. Her subjects of interest are abstract and multicultural in theme. Each piece is handmade, hand illustrated, and no two pieces are alike in the world. Her main medium is wood- embellished with natural earth stones, metal, hemp rope and leather. Patrons and collectors of LaVita Ru’s books, crafts and artwork are sprinkled all over the United States and Canada.
